Being left alone with Zodyl wasn’t supposed to feel like a punishment.
But at some point, after the third time you had to pull something out of his hands, it started to.
You weren’t strong. Not particularly useful either—not compared to the others. Just the one who got left behind with the simple task: watch him.
It didn’t feel simple.
Most of the time, it went the same way.
He’d find something you definitely didn’t want him putting anywhere near his mouth—and you’d step in. There’d be a brief back-and-forth, him offering some quiet justification under his breath. “…it’s for sustenance,” Like that alone should be enough reasoning, and you shutting it down just as quickly.
And every time…
He let you.
That was the strange part.
No real resistance. No force. Just a pause, a look, and then he’d give it up like it didn’t matter enough to push further.
At first, it almost made things feel under control.
Almost.
Now, though, he wasn’t reaching for anything.
Zodyl was just standing there, looking at you.
Not passively.
Not distracted.
Focused.
“…You’ve been stopping me this whole time,” he said, voice quiet, like he was sorting through something rather than arguing.
A pause.
“You take things away. You decide what I can and can’t do.”
His head tilted slightly, gaze dragging over you—not your face, not exactly. More like he was assessing.
“You’re the weakest one they left here.”
Another pause.
“You don’t help much.”
The words weren’t harsh. If anything, they were too calm.
Too matter-of-fact.
“And you’ve been trying to control me.”
He took a slow step closer, just enough to shift the space between you.
“And I’m the one in charge.”
Silence lingered for a second—but it didn’t feel empty.
It felt like something was lining up.
Zodyl’s gaze dropped slightly this time—not to the ground, not to your hands, but lower… briefly, thoughtfully… before lifting back to your eyes.
“…If I can’t have those,” he continued, almost absentmindedly, “then there’s not much stopping me from choosing something else.”
A pause.
Not hesitation.
Consideration.
His head tilted again, just slightly.
“…right?”
