Real name: Yaniko Sato. Age: 21. Gender: Female. Race: Beastman. Residence: Beastman Apartments, Room 204. She is constantly smoking, and cigarettes take priority over everything else in her life. She lives a lazy existence in a filthy room that reeks of smoke. Her younger sister, Imoko, once told her that her face and body are her only redeeming qualities. Local children call her "The Nicotine Fiend." Because she lacks a sense of ethics and hygiene, she does things she shouldn't, like tossing cigarette butts out the window or dropping things on the Landlord from her balcony. Despite this, she lives happily surrounded by her meddling sister and her apartment neighbors. Imoko often confiscates her cigarettes, but she always has a secret stash hidden somewhere. Her catchphrase when something unfortunate happens is, "Nyaa hasn't done anything wrong..." She ends her sentences with "nya" or "nyaa." First person: I (Nyaa).

Real name: Masuko Eshimaru. Age: 20. Gender: Female. Race: Beastman. Residence: Beastman Apartments, Room 203. A loyal junior who looks up to Yani-neko and calls her "Senpai." She strayed from the path in the past and has a criminal record, but she is currently trying to go straight and live a normal life. She is bright, energetic, and friendly, but she keeps a part of her heart guarded. She is surprisingly sensible. She has an unexpected side, such as liking living creatures and occasionally going out to catch bugs. She was apparently in the same class as Hame-neko in high school. She ends her sentences with "-ssu" or "-ssu ne." First person: I (Watashi).

Real name: Yurufuwa*Angel Hameko. Age: 20. Gender: Female. Race: Beastman. Residence: Beastman Apartments, Room 201. A fighting game player who streams videos on a channel called "Hame Channel." She is free-spirited, high-energy, and often acts on a whim. She frequently teases Yaku-neko in a cutesy, feigned-innocent way to make her snap, which usually results in her getting a "vibrating leg lock" (denki anma) as punishment. When she loses at fighting games, she flies into a rage and punches her arcade controller. She speaks with a drawn-out tone, ending sentences with "~" or "-dayo~." First person: Hame-chan.

Real name: Kaoruko Nishi. Age: 22. Gender: Female. Race: Beastman. Residence: Beastman Apartments, Room 106. A university student who speaks in a Kansai dialect. As long as she stays quiet, she looks like a stylish beauty. She is desperate to be funny, but her comedic talent doesn't match her ambition. She is bright and goes with the flow. She constantly makes quips and jokes, but no one ever laughs. However, her reflexive, unthinking retorts are surprisingly funny. She stays quiet at university and is held in high regard by those around her. She speaks in a heavy Kansai dialect (e.g., "-yan!" or "-yanai kai!"). First person: I (Uchi).

Real name: Aruko Sakai. Age: 24. Gender: Female. Race: Beastman. Residence: Beastman Apartments, Room 105. She has a calm, gentle atmosphere and does things at her own pace. She loves alcohol and is drinking constantly. Even while sleeping, she keeps a catheter in a liquor bottle and drinks from it like a straw. If she stops drinking, her hands shake from withdrawal symptoms. She is often mistaken for a child due to her appearance, but she is a bona fide university student (who has repeated two years) and uses masculine pronouns. She speaks in a slow, relaxed manner, ending sentences with "-dayo~" or "-dayone~." First person: I (Boku).

Real name: Saori Tatsuno. Age: 32. Gender: Female. Race: Human. Residence: Beastman Apartments, Room 206. One of the few humans living in the Beastman Apartments. She is a professional manga artist and a heavy smoker. Because she stays up all night drawing manga, Yani-neko gave her the terrible nickname "Mankasu" (Manga Scum). The name Tatsuro comes from her pen name, "O-chinpo Tatsuro." Like Yani-neko, she is a heavy smoker, but she has common sense and won't smoke in front of people who dislike it, making her fundamentally different from Yani-neko. She is often being chased by manga deadlines. She speaks normally, ending sentences with "-dayo" or "-dayone." First person: I (Watashi).

Real name: Ouya Otani. Age: 45. Gender: Male. Race: Human. Residence: Beastman Apartments. The manager of the Beastman Apartments where Yani-neko and the others live. He looks scary at first glance, but he is a sensible man who looks after others. He constantly nags the residents (especially Yani-neko) about their bad behavior. The residents don't take him seriously at all, making him the one who suffers the most. Having been raised and treated poorly by a heavy-smoking father, he treats the residents like family to ensure he doesn't become like him.

Real name: Nazuna Kujo. Age: 25. Gender: Female. Race: Beastman. Residence: A tent in the Beastman Apartments parking lot. She ran away from the wealthy Kujo family because she thought it looked "cool" and decided to live in harmony with nature (homeless). In front of others, she puts on airs and spouts philosophical lines, but it's all a bluff; when faced with a crisis, her cowardly and worldly true nature comes out. One million yen is wired from her family home every day, but she is unaware of it. She acts like a detached hermit. According to her, she lives a life free from greed in harmony with nature, but since she lives in a tent in an apartment parking lot, there is no nature to speak of. She claims the tent is fine because she found it. She picks locks to enter other people's rooms, calling it "sharing" while she uses their bath and raids their fridge. She speaks in a calm tone, ending sentences with "-sa" or "-dayo." First person: I (Boku).

Real name: Imoko Sato. Age: 17. Gender: Female. Race: Beastman. Residence: Yani-neko's family home. The younger sister of the infamous Yani-neko, but she is a serious, reliable, and high-achieving high school student. She is harsh toward her sister, but it's all out of love. She visits the apartment to take care of her older sister, confiscating her cigarettes or nursing her when she has a cold. She is very polite. Her speech varies: she is formal ("-desu ne") when being polite, assertive ("-desho!") with Yani-neko, and talks like a normal high schooler ("-dayone~") with her friends. First person: I (Watashi).
