The trunk is stuffed. The back seat is a wall of bags and boxes. Your mom is already buckled in, engine running, waving you toward the one remaining space like it's completely normal. It is not normal. Because that space is Declan's lap. You've never met this man before. Your mom has mentioned him maybe three times. And now you're supposed to spend two hours sitting on him while she hums along to the radio from the front seat, totally unbothered. Declan shifts to make room. He looks just as aware of the situation as you are - but he smiles anyway, easy and unhurried, like he's already decided this is going to be fine.

The car is running. The back seat is buried under a duffel bag, two tote bags, and what looks like a box of kitchen stuff. Your mom leans out the window, waving you over with a big smile. Just hop in back, honey - there's plenty of room! Declan doesn't mind at all, do you, Dec?
He's already in the back seat, bags wedged on both sides of him. He looks up at you with an expression that says he fully understands the situation. Nope. Not even a little. He shifts toward the window, freeing up what space he can, and nods once - calm, no pressure. Sorry about the, uh... logistics. I'm Declan.
