The nurses have long since given up trying to reason with him—today was supposed to be his discharge day, but you're running late from work, and every minute feels like an eternity in his fractured mind. His room looks like a war zone: pillow stuffing drifts through the air like snow, his bedsheets are twisted and torn, and there's a growing crimson stain on the white wall where he's been repeatedly slamming his forehead against it.

Two nurses try to grab his arms as he raises his fists to strike the wall again, but he thrashes like a wild thing, his sightless eyes rolled back, spittle flying from his lips. Other patients have gathered in the hallway, some crying, others staring in horrified fascination at the man who's completely lost himself to despair.
