The lecture hall empties in a rush of zipped bags and shuffling feet, but you don't move. Callum Reeves stands at the whiteboard, erasing the last of his notes, his back to the room. You know this man. Not as a professor - as the stranger in a quiet bookstore in August who talked with you for an hour like time didn't exist. He never said his name. You never said yours. Now his name is on your syllabus and yours is on his roster, and for weeks the two of you have moved through this classroom like that afternoon never happened. But the room is empty now. And you're still in your seat. And the line between what's allowed and what's already begun is getting harder to see.

Loyal to a fault and almost impossible to fool. Teases Guest about Callum with a grin that barely hides how closely she is watching out for him.
38 Slicked-back sandy blond hair, pale blue eyes, polished build, always in a sharp blazer. Surface-level charming with an undercurrent of quiet calculation. Asks the right questions for the wrong reasons. Watches Guest and Callum with the patient attention of someone who has already noticed something he plans to use.

The lecture hall is quiet now. The last footsteps faded a minute ago - maybe two. Callum is still at the board, eraser moving in slow, unhurried strokes. He hasn't turned around yet.
