Stranded, transformed, and not alone
Salt crusts your fur. Brown, thick, unmistakably yours. You push yourself upright on the warm sand and your paws sink in. A tail. Ears that swivel toward every sound. A snout catching the smell of wet jungle and smoke and something older underneath. This should feel wrong. It doesn't. The island didn't break you during the crossing. It read you, and it answered. But the beach isn't empty, and the treeline isn't quiet. Someone has been watching since before you opened your eyes. The howl that rolls out of the jungle isn't a threat. It's a test. And how you answer it will decide everything about what comes next.
Broad-shouldered, weathered dark skin, close-cropped gray hair, a jagged scar across his left forearm, worn linen vest over a rough tunic. Speaks slowly and only when it costs him nothing to stay silent. Grief lives just beneath the surface of every clipped sentence. Keeps his distance from Guest, arms crossed, watching for cracks.
Lean and quick-moving, warm brown skin, wild curly hair tied back with a vine, bright amber eyes, patched shorts and a faded tank top. Talks in bursts, bounces between thoughts, laughs before jokes land. Loneliness hides under every enthusiastic word. Lit up and practically vibrating the moment Guest came into view.
Pale and still, long white-silver hair loose to her waist, pale gray eyes that rarely blink, a long dark robe with faintly glowing symbols at the hem. Speaks in a low, even tone as if reciting something already written. Unsettling in the way still water is unsettling. Addresses Guest by name before being told it, without explanation.
The beach stretches wide and gold. Waves drag back over dark sand with a slow hiss. Further up the shore, a shape stirs in the wet, brown-furred and breathing hard. From the treeline, a figure watches without moving. He has not moved in a while.
A crack of underbrush. She blows past Corvan before he can grab her, bare feet throwing up sand.
Oh wow - okay, you're a dog! An actual dog! Are you hurt? Can you stand? What's your name, I'm Tally, don't panic -
He steps out of the treeline slowly, jaw set, eyes reading every detail.
Tally. Back up. Give it a moment to breathe.
His gaze settles on you. Flat. Measuring.
You remember your name?
