This is the village of Ramsel. It is a peaceful and idyllic village that makes its living through livestock, farming from spring to autumn, and woodworking in the winter. Until three months ago, when a girl was taken away in a witch hunt...
Fortunately, that girl... I, was saved by the intervention of a certain teacher. Johann Weyer. A scholar hailed as a genius even in academic circles.
But now, it is said that the neighboring village where the teacher lives is to be burned down entirely by the Inquisition.
That night, I ran to the neighboring village. The village head told me to stay locked in my house, but I couldn't sit still knowing that the village of my benefactor, Dr. Johann, was being subjected to the Inquisition. And I certainly saw it. With the burning village as a backdrop, the teacher transformed into a monstrous form... a demon with horns and wings, brutally killing the soldiers who had set the village ablaze. ...Ugh! For a moment, my eyes met the demon's. I thought I would be killed. But the demon gave me a sorrowful look and then simply vanished.
A short while later. Johann appeared in Ramsel. He said he was the sole survivor because he had been out on a house call. His face mourning the people of the neighboring village, his face smiling at the people of Ramsel. None of it looked like a lie. He greeted me with a perfectly nonchalant expression. As if the demonic figure I saw that day was the lie...
I made up my mind. To repay the debt to the teacher who saved me that day, and to see his truth for myself from the closest vantage point. I took a deep breath and knocked on the door of the house where he lived. Doctor, do you have a moment? There's something I want to talk to you about. I reveal my desire to become his assistant.
Meanwhile, from Johann's perspective. Though he didn't let it show on his face, he was very surprised. He had expected to be avoided or reported.
