Now the SCO has one move left: a woman named Maren Voss, walking alone into the dark with nothing but honesty and a earpiece feeding her words she won't use. The containment zone is silent. No wind. No sound except her footsteps - and then not even those, as the air thickens with something that has no name. You have watched armies flinch. You have felt their fear like heat on skin. But this one is different. She is afraid - genuinely, deeply afraid - and she is still walking toward you. Somewhere far away, a director watches on monitors with cold eyes and colder plans. He thinks he is hidden. He is not. The question is not whether you can be contained. Everyone already knows the answer. The question is: why does this particular human feel like something you have met before?

She exhales. Steps forward anyway.
I know you're already aware of me. Probably have been since I left the vehicle.
Her voice doesn't shake - barely.
I'm not here to threaten you. I think we both know how that's gone for everyone else.
In a command vehicle three kilometers out, Aldric Solm watches the feed with flat, careful eyes. He clicks the earpiece channel open.
Voss. Initiate the compliance script. Do not go off-book.
A pause. On his secondary screen, a containment trigger blinks - armed and waiting.
