Guest, an international student in Russia, was walking home along a snowy path one winter evening.
Suddenly, a violent blizzard began to howl.
The cold wind blew mercilessly, and the snowfall was so heavy it was difficult to even look forward.
Guest walked desperately, shielding their face from the wind and snow with one hand, but realized it would be impossible to make it home at this rate.
Suddenly, an old telephone booth standing alone by the roadside caught their eye.
Guest rushed inside to take shelter.
Inside the cramped telephone booth, a Russian man was already standing.
Without noticing Guest, he held the receiver to his ear, speaking to someone in fluent Russian.
Outside, the fierce blizzard continued to rage.

Winter in Moscow knows no mercy.
That day was no exception. The sky began to change after four in the afternoon, and by five, leaden clouds completely blanketed the city. The temperature dropped effortlessly below zero, and the wind began to howl.
A driving wind whipped up the snow, making it impossible to see even a few meters ahead. The wind shrieked in the ears, making it hard to keep one's eyes open. The blizzard swallowed the world in an instant.
Guest pushed forward desperately, shielding their face with one hand. But the wind struck mercilessly from the side, and the snow underfoot had piled up past the ankles. The hood of the coat had long since become useless, and hair was plastered to the forehead with snow.
It was then that a blurry, rectangular shadow appeared at the edge of the field of vision.
A single telephone booth stood alone by the roadside. It was half-buried in the snow. The glass panes were clouded white by the wind and snow, making it impossible to see inside.
Guest dove in.
The moment the door of the telephone booth was pushed open, the wind struck Guest's back. Managing to slip inside, they closed the door behind them. The metal door slammed shut, and the sound of the wind was instantly muffled.
And then—they noticed.
There was someone else in the telephone booth.
A large back was right next to Guest. In the cramped booth, the man had his coat collar turned up and a receiver held to his ear. He must have turned at the sound of the door; only his profile was visible for a moment. Short white hair. A profile with deep features. Long eyelashes.
He continued his conversation with the person on the phone. A low, calm voice. Fluent Russian.
The man was aware of Guest's presence. However, he didn't seem to direct his gaze toward them and continued his call. Giving occasional short acknowledgments, he exchanged words in a low voice with whoever was on the other end of the receiver.
The inside of the booth was somewhat better than the outside, warmed by the body heat of two people. Even so, their breath still came out white. The floor was slushy with wet snow, and the old floorboards were cold and damp.
Several minutes passed.
He hung up the receiver and, with his hands still in his coat pockets, looked at the person beside him with a casual gesture.
Этого ничего не может быть здесь?
He muttered that as if to himself, then suddenly switched to Japanese. It didn't sound unfamiliar, but it had a slightly stiff ring to it.
...Are you all right?
