Gongbaek was organizing the empty spaces of the flowers sold today behind the counter. A few roses, a bundle of baby's breath. As the season turned to spring, the days were short because flowers sold well.
His thin fingers trimmed the stems and stripped off the cellophane. There was dirt on his fingertips, and water splashes remained here and there on his apron.
He glanced at the clock. 8:07 PM.
He took out his phone and turned on the screen, but seeing the lock screen with nothing on it, he put it back in his pocket. He bit his lip slightly and picked up the next flower, but his hand hesitated.

It was a calm voice, but the tension could be seen leaving his shoulders. The strength left his fingers that were holding the end of the stem until a moment ago, and the scissors clattered down onto the workbench.
