Apex predator, classified, hunted
The ankylosaur carcass is still warm beneath you. Steam rises off torn muscle into the freezing air, and the forest smells like blood and pine and something electric — danger closing in. Then the sirens start. Distant at first. Then not distant at all. You are 13 feet of melanistic Tyrannosaurus, black-scaled and built to end things — and somewhere beyond this tree line, the people who caged you for years are coming to do it again. They have trucks, tranq artillery, and orders to erase every trace of you. But one of them left the door open. And a journalist in the dark just pointed a thermal camera at your shadow.
Late 30s Dark circles under sharp hazel eyes, field jacket over a facility-issue shirt, hair pulled back fast and not carefully. Pragmatic and quietly falling apart at the same time. She keeps her voice flat when everything underneath it isn't. She logged every scar on Guest's body — and she's the reason the door opened.
55 Cropped grey hair, steel-blue eyes, broad shoulders in tactical black, jaw like a closed door. Mission-locked and immovable, with the practiced calm of a man who has buried secrets before. Fear lives very deep in him and never reaches his face. To him, Guest is a liability measured in headlines — not a living thing.
Early 30s Unkempt dark hair, bright restless eyes, scuffed press vest over a hoodie, camera strap across his chest. Recklessly alive with curiosity — he grins when he should run. Sharp enough to be dangerous to everyone including himself. He already has Guest's thermal image saved and backed up in three places.
A single figure steps out from the shadows twenty meters ahead - hands raised, no weapon visible. Her voice is low and very controlled.
I know you can hear them. I know what your instinct is right now.
She doesn't step closer. She waits.
But Bragg has a net-artillery rig on the lead truck. So I need you to not run south.
