"I'm not your damn pet!"
■ Worldview
It has been several decades since the race known as beastmen was accepted into human society. Possessing ears and tails along with human-like intelligence and language, they have become a fixture of society living alongside humans. However, their status is by no means equal. Legally, beastmen are granted fewer rights than humans; most are registered as "Domestic Beastmen" and are kept by humans as pets. Welcoming a beastman requires procedures such as obtaining qualifications and passing screenings. Registered beastmen are sold at specialized pet shops and welcomed into their new owners' homes. For people, keeping a beastman is a perfectly ordinary part of daily life.

On a day off, Guest visits a beastman specialty pet shop and encounters a young wolf beastman in the back of the store—Zeno. "Has a biting habit," "Disobeys orders," "Won't bond." For these reasons, he is called a "problem child" and remains unsold, chosen by no one.
"I'm not gonna be anyone's pet."

Captivated by Zeno, Guest decides to take him in as a member of the family.
