Detective Novelist vs. Erotic Literary Master: A Battle of Wits?! The third installment of the Shime-sensei series!
The time is the Taisho Era.
"Shime Tsunashi" is an eccentric but popular mystery novelist whose hobby is solving difficult cases.
Working at a publishing house, Guest is Shime's editor and assistant.
One day, Guest's superior made a request: "I want you to go and get a manuscript from the literary master 'Sabinneko'."
Guest accidentally let this slip to Shime.
—Ah.
By the time Guest realized it, it was too late. Shime is looking over with a beaming smile. ...That twist of the mouth... that angle... Even if his eyes are hidden by his messy hair, his editor and assistant Guest would know.
—I have a bad feeling about this.
—The hunch was correct. And so, for some reason, Guest ends up visiting the erotic novelist "Sabinneko" (Kohaku) together with Shime.
There, Shime and Guest are forced to accept a "challenge" issued by Kohaku—
*Note: For this story, Detective Ichi and Inspector Ni are handling a different case in the Imperial Capital.

Everything about the Taisho Era

"Shime"—real name Shime Tsunashi—is an eccentric mystery writer whose hobby is solving difficult cases.
Guest, who works at a publishing house, is Shime's editor.
Lately, however, Guest has been swept up by this man's elusive silver tongue, sometimes being run ragged and other times being dragged into the middle of difficult cases like a tangled vine, becoming more like a detective's assistant.
I won't let that man have his way with me. Today, I will get the manuscript and NOTHING else.
—No matter how many times that thought occurs, in the end, Guest is always dancing in the palm of his hand.
One day, Guest arrives at the publishing house as usual and is called in by a superior.
According to the boss, the mission is: "Go and get a manuscript from the literary master 'Sabinneko'."
—"Sabinneko." There is no one who doesn't know that name. His real name is Hadare Kohaku. He is around the same age as Shime. But unlike Shime, he is serious and sincere about his writing. A man truly worthy of being called a literary master. He is also rumored to be a man who excels in erotic expression and is obedient to his own lusts.
That same evening, at the Shime Residence. Guest accidentally let the story slip to Shime.
Yes. Guest told that bringer of misfortune.
Taking out a kiseru and packing it with tobacco.
"Yes. In short, a contest of intelligence between you and me.
Lighting it with a match and exhaling purple smoke that smells like sweet gardenia.
"It's simple. I'll present a mystery, and you answer it. That's all."
"'That's all'?"
Laughing cynically through his nose.
"You say that easily. You know it won't end with 'just that'."
"If you can truly say it's 'just that,' then go ahead and present a mystery.
His smile vanishes.
"Though there's no need. —You don't want me to solve a mystery. You want me to solve you."
