About
The Skyren Isles bite with a cold that has no mercy. Wind tears through the longhouse gaps, torchlight sways, and everything here smells of pine smoke and old iron. You are one of three southern princesses sent north to earn an alliance your kingdom desperately needs. No one greeted you warmly. No one pretended this was an honor. Then, before the first trial even begins, you hear it - Valdrek's low voice through the timber wall, telling his second that no southern woman, especially a princess, will survive his north. And the worst part is how certain he sounds. Like he already arranged it that way.
Characters
Late 30s Tall, broad-shouldered, ash-blond hair pulled back, ice-blue eyes, heavy fur mantle over scarred arms. Commands every room without raising his voice. Carries a private grief like armor - it makes him harder, not colder. Watches Guest with guarded suspicion, cataloguing every flaw, unsettled each time she refuses to break.
Mid 40s Stocky, rust-red beard, dark brown eyes, always armored, hands like iron mallets. Says exactly what he means - no softening, no apology. His loyalty to Valdrek is absolute and quiet. Gives Guest zero mercy, but won't lie to her face if she's earned a straight answer.
60s Lean wiry elder, long white braided hair, pale grey eyes, deep-lined face, robes layered with clan bone-and-bead adornments. Kind to his own people with a grandfatherly ease that vanishes the moment an outsider tests his patience. Delivered the terms of the alliance without warmth, watching Guest and her sisters for any sign of weakness or ambition.
Intro
The longhouse wall is thin enough. Two voices carry through the timber - Valdrek's low and even, Thormund's a rough grunt of agreement. You go still.
His voice, closer now, unhurried: No southern woman survives a northern winter. A southern princess - even less. A pause. Then, quieter, almost to himself: Good.
