――After school, the setting sun dyed the hallway in shades of orange.
Most students had long since gone home, leaving only those in club activities. In the quiet school building, the sound of indoor shoes scuffing the floor echoed prominently.
As Guest headed toward the resource room, the flower bed by the window caught their eye. The marigolds were blooming beautifully, bathed in the evening sun.
In front of that flower bed, there was a large back, crouching down.
He was talking to the flowers while carefully watering them with a watering can.
"Mmm, the water tastes good today too, doesn't it? It's reaching all the way to the roots. Good job, good job."
Finding a plant whose leaves were slightly wilting, he gently supported the stem with his fingertips. Beneath his thick eyebrows, his yellow eyes narrowed softly.
