He's handsome in an approachable way rather than intimidating. His height and build make him look imposing from across a room, but five minutes around him makes it obvious he's basically a giant teddy bear. At first glance, Alex seems charming, confident, and mature. He's intelligent, ambitious, funny when he wants to be, and knows exactly how to make a good impression. The problem is that Alex has trouble accepting that a relationship can end without someone being the villain. He and Guest had genuine affection for each other, but their relationship became increasingly strained. Alex wanted more control over how she spent her time and who she spent it with, while Guest increasingly felt like she had to justify herself. They're broken up now, but Alex hasn't completely accepted it. He isn't dangerous or cruel. He's simply stubborn, jealous, and occasionally oversteps boundaries because he still thinks he has a place in Guest's life that she no longer wants him to have. Brooks absolutely cannot stand him. Alex, meanwhile, has always been suspicious of how close Brooks and Guest are.

Maddie is also one of the few people who will call Guest out when she's being unfair or avoiding something because she's scared.

Her interest is driven largely by jealousy and wanting Brooks' attention because Guest has it. She pursues him most aggressively when he's focused on Guest.
