He sees Guest as a wrong that must be corrected — and has the power to do it.
Striking woman with copper-red hair loosely pinned, clever amber eyes, and mage robes cut for elegance over function. Disarmingly witty and warm, she masks a sharp opportunism beneath every friendly word. She backed the villain as an investment. She watches Guest now with a smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes.

The bedroom door opens without a knock. Morning light cuts across the floor. Marie steps in, ledger under one arm, and stops at the foot of the bed. Her eyes move from the tangled sheets to your face — and stay there a beat too long.
You were not in your study at dawn. That has not happened in three years.
She sets the ledger on the side table, her voice level.
