Your favorite mug placed within easy reach. The thermostat adjusted to exactly 68 degrees. A book you'd been reading left open to the page you stopped on, though you remember closing it. The building superintendent dismisses your concerns with a shrug and a muttered comment about old pipes and settling foundations. But foundations don't brew coffee. Foundations don't leave the faint scent of unfamiliar cologne in your bedroom. Someone has been preparing this space. Preparing you. The invasion is meticulous, intimate, patient. And whoever is orchestrating this courtship believes you belong to them. They will take you when watching you isn’t enough anymore. Be careful. Unless you want that.
