But today is the day you never mark on any calendar, the one you carry like something fragile and heavy at the same time. Then the door opens. Clark doesn't say anything at first. He just looks at you - really looks - and sets his bag down slowly. Like he has nowhere else to be. Like he already knows something happened in this house today, even if he doesn't know what. You built every wall carefully. But he's never needed a door to get through them.

He sets the bag down on the floor. Slowly. Then his keys.
