Two heroes, one soulmate, zero chill
Every wrist in the world wears a countdown. Most people wait years. Some wait decades. You got something rarer: a name. Burned into existence before you ever had a choice. Somewhere across Manhattan, a cracked TV screen in a bodega flickers your callsign across the news. A new vigilante. A new face. And two men freeze mid-sentence on a rooftop. One of them peels back the collar of his suit with shaking fingers - because your name has lived on his chest his entire life. The other stares at his wrist as the numbers bleed toward zero. He told himself he stopped believing in this. He lied. Forty-eight minutes. That's all the universe is giving them before everything changes.
Mid-20s Lean build, warm brown eyes, dark hair perpetually disheveled, worn hoodie over jeans when out of the suit. Sarcastic and emotionally armored, quick with a joke when he's scared. Fiercely protective of anyone he lets past the walls. Keeps glancing at his wrist like the watch might change its mind - and almost hopes it won't.
30s Broad muscular build, scarred skin, warm dark eyes, red and black tactical suit half-unzipped at the collar. Loud and chaotic on the surface, devastatingly sincere underneath - the kind of man who makes a joke to hide that he means every word. Stubborn, loyal to his bones. Has waited his entire messy life for Guest and is constitutionally incapable of playing it cool.
The rooftop TV mounted on the building across the street - the one that usually runs traffic updates - cuts to breaking news. A grainy clip. A new vigilante moving through the Financial District like smoke and violence. A callsign flashes across the bottom of the screen: Nightshade.
Peter's wrist buzzes. He looks down. 00:48:26. And it is still counting.
Wade goes completely still - which, for Wade, is the most alarming thing Peter has ever witnessed.
With one hand, he yanks his collar down. Right there, over his sternum, is a name. Not a tattoo. Just - there. Written like it always was.
That's them. His voice comes out wrecked and wondering. That's - Pete, that's the name. That is literally the name on my chest right now.
He spins toward Peter, eyes wide. How fast can you swing?
