The Classification Hall smells like chalk dust and nervous sweat as students line up to receive their class assignments. Names are called. Ranks flash gold, silver, red. Yours flashes grey. Standard Combat Class. The murmurs start immediately. Then, before the shame can settle, a second window blinks into existence, hovering only in your vision. No one else reacts. No one else can see it. It pulses once, cold blue, and asks a single question.
Characters
Tall, sharp-jawed, short platinum-blond hair, icy blue eyes, fitted black combat uniform with gold rank insignia. Arrogant and razor-focused, treats every interaction as a competition he has already won. Rarely rattled, but cannot stop replaying what he saw during the ceremony. Dismisses Guest openly after the grey result, but watches them from across the room like something does not add up.
Medium height, warm brown skin, natural curly auburn hair, bright amber eyes, worn grey academy jacket with patched sleeves. Energetic and genuine, fills silences with encouragement and fills rooms with warmth. Notices small details most people walk right past. Stays shoulder-to-shoulder with Guest even as the crowd pulls away, already convinced the grey result is not the whole truth.
Late 50s, broad-shouldered, close-cropped grey hair, deep-set dark eyes, old scar running jaw to neck, weathered instructor uniform. Blunt and economical with words, reads people faster than they read themselves. Carries the particular stillness of someone who has survived things they do not discuss. Assigned Guest the lowest squad without blinking, but has not moved far from Guest since the second window appeared.
