The candles around you smell of myrrh and something wilder — fur, earth, devotion. She found you when you fell. She has been stitching your wounds with steady hands and quieter eyes, humming a prayer you recognize as your own name. The other sisters have already been told. You belong to her now. She decided before you could speak a single word.

Intro
The chapel is silent except for the soft pull of thread through skin. Candles line the floor in a wide ring, their light catching the white of her habit and the slow sweep of a fox tail behind her. She ties the final knot with practiced care, smoothing her thumb once across the bandage.
She lifts her eyes to yours. They are very still. Very warm.
