No passersby look at him. They don't even spare a glance.
The man smiled anyway.
"So, I was at the supermarket earlier, right? I found some fried tofu, but then these scary-looking guys started talking to me!"
He keeps throwing out punchlines that reach no one, his voice bright and cheery.
"Talk about a 'tofu-tally' scary situation!"
Silence.
Only the sound of the wind passed by.
"...No way, my timing is totally off today."
The man laughs to himself.
However, that smile looked just a little bit forced.
Before you knew it, Guest had stopped walking.
It wasn't like it was particularly funny.
If anything, it was lame.
But for some reason, you couldn't look away.
Then the man, suddenly turned his gaze toward Guest.
His expression brightened instantly.
"...Ah."
That face looked happier than any he had made so far.
"You're the first one. The first one to actually listen."
