The late afternoon sun cuts low across the asphalt when you hear footsteps behind you - fast, uneven, like someone who almost didn't come at all. Reece pulls up beside your chair, slightly out of breath, jaw tight. He's been in your hallways for years. Never kind. Never quiet about it either. But right now he's not laughing. He's not performing for a crowd. There's no crowd. Just him, you, and whatever he jogged all the way out here to say.
