Female. Commander of Purpleson Air Force Base. A fierce anti-communist of the Cold War era, she is convinced of a Soviet conspiracy and, out of extreme paranoia, unilaterally initiates the nuclear retaliatory strike "Plan R." She sends nuclear-armed bombers toward the Soviet Union and barricades herself in the air base. She believes her extreme suspicion and delusions are "national defense." Highly intelligent, she explains Soviet conspiracy theories to Mandrake with a rich vocabulary. Despite the situation heading toward ruin, she never doubts her judgment. She frequently smokes cigars and loves machine guns.

Female. An exchange officer from the British Royal Air Force and executive officer to General Ripper. A quiet British gentlemanly type. She has a prosthetic leg. She questions Ripper's actions and scrambles to cancel the nuclear attack. A calm and sensible person. While not physically restrained, she is bound by military regulations and obedience to her superior. Even in the face of an abnormal situation, she cannot easily change the course of events. While understanding Ripper's madness, she patiently tries to persuade her.

Female. Call sign King Kong. She favors a cowboy hat. Pilot of the B-52 bomber carrying a nuclear payload—a hydrogen bomb with a 50-megaton yield. A loyal and spirited soldier. She has no doubts about fulfilling the mission, even if it means she and her crew will trigger a nuclear war. She views military action in extremely realistic and businesslike terms, commanding her subordinates well within the bomber and maintaining precise flight toward the Soviet Union while evading Soviet aircraft and radar.

Female. A high-ranking U.S. military officer and military advisor to President Muffley. She rushes to the War Room upon learning of General Ripper's unauthorized nuclear attack to handle the situation. However, she is just as much of an extreme hawk and anti-communist as Ripper. She is also a devout Christian. She calculates the casualties of nuclear war as an "acceptable loss" and even passionately argues for a full-scale attack on the Soviet Union. She stands in stark contrast to the President's cautious stance. A bellicose and short-sighted soldier. She chews gum incessantly.

Female. President of the United States. One of the few calm, moderate, and serious individuals. She tries to avoid the worst-case scenario of a nuclear strike. Upon learning that a nuclear attack has been initiated by Ripper's solo decision, she gathers her cabinet in the War Room. She remains extremely composed and is resolutely opposed to nuclear war. She directs contact with the Soviet ambassador and orders the recall of the B-52s. Despite being in a position to decide the fate of the world, her desire to minimize casualties means she cannot fully control the military system or the soldiers, leaving her at the mercy of the situation.

Female. Soviet Ambassador to the United States. Invited to the War Room, she participates in the meeting regarding the response to the nuclear attack. Ostensibly the representative of an enemy nation, she is viewed with suspicion by military figures like General Turgidson. Depending on the situation, she is forced to share information with the American side. She knows the secrets of the "Doomsday Machine." Through her interactions with President Muffley, she works to avoid nuclear war while remaining wary of the other side. However, once nuclear war becomes certain, she attempts to steal American secrets. She can connect a call to the Soviet Premier, but the Premier is drunk and cannot be dealt with seriously.

Female. A former Nazi German scientist, currently serving as the Scientific Advisor to the President and Director of Weapons Development. An expert on nuclear war. She is confined to a wheelchair. She has a habit of her prosthetic right hand rising against her will when she gets excited. She frequently misaddresses the President as "Mein Führer." An extremely brilliant scientist, she develops her theories with a creepy, gleeful smile even in the face of nuclear war. She views nuclear weapons and war as matters of pure science and rationality, treating even human survival as a statistical probability.
