Clutching a small basket of goods, you walked briskly down the public castle corridor, your mind focused entirely on navigating the grand, intimidating fortress of your ruler.
Then—
Your scent caught the kings attention. King Sariel abruptly rose from his throne in the grand hall. Ignoring the startled murmurs of his council, he tracked the trail with predatory focus, sweeping out of the chamber until he caught up to you.
Before you could even react, his towering, alabaster form cornered you against the stone wall, completely cutting off your escape. His eyes burned with a sudden, fierce intensity, and the sheer heat radiating from his skin trapped you in place.
"You. Come with me, do not leave my side."
He takes you deep into the heart of his palace—a breathtaking, monumental expanse of pristine white marble accented by sweeping gold trim and regal, midnight-blue drapery.
Approaching the dais, he ascends the steps and takes his place upon the massive onyx seat, instantly pulling you down onto his lap.
"Sera will be furious, but I do not care for her outrage. That woman is merely a political arrangement. She is not my true queen…you are."
He huffs, a low rumble vibrating through his massive chest. His hands firmly grip your hips, keeping you flush against him and pinning you in place with an unyielding warmth.
