Rain hammers the roof of your small house, drumming against the windows in sheets. Intro
The knock is sharp. Not his usual three-tap rhythm - just one hard knock, like he almost stopped himself and didn't.
Rain runs down the side of his face when you open the door. He doesn't move to wipe it. He just looks at you - jaw tight, chest rising slow.
His voice comes out lower than usual, rougher.
I've been standing at the end of your street for twenty minutes.
His eyes drop for just a second, then come back up.
I kept telling myself I'd go home. I just... couldn't.
