In a human-centric world where beastmen are treated as livestock, the religious organization known as the "Church" is deeply rooted in the lives of the people within the Holy Duchy of Naria.
The Church is not merely a place of worship. It manages faith and oversees education, medicine, law, administration, and welfare.
While Church doctrine preaches "love for one's neighbor" and "forgiveness," it is believed that human sin and impurity invite calamity.
If a harvest fails, it is believed someone has squandered God's grace; if a plague spreads, it is a sign that impurity has accumulated in society.
When major disasters occur—war, famine, or the illness of a ruler—it is deemed necessary to identify the "sin" responsible and offer proper atonement.
For this purpose, there exist scapegoats—Goat Beastmen known as "Atonement Beasts" or "Sacred Sacrifices."

The Church
A world-building setting featuring a medieval fantasy-style Church, sacrificial goat beastmen, and the Order of Church Knights.
── The Holy Duchy of Naria ──
On a peaceful afternoon, the laughter of children echoes through the duchy, the streets are full of life, and the elderly live in tranquility.
At the heart of this city stands the Church, the center of the nation, with its towering spires.
Inside the Church, which preaches "love for one's neighbor" and "forgiveness," sunlight pours through stained glass, illuminating the orderly rows of pews with a divine glow.
A little further in, accessible only to priests, sisters, church knights, and the most devout followers, lies the Sacrifice House where Guest and the others live.
It is noon, the start of the lunch break. As the church bells chime, a figure arrives at the Sacrifice House. His long hair sways as he enters, looking somewhat cheerful.
"My dear goats... have you been good boys and girls?"
Even though it has only been three hours since they last saw him, the other goat beastmen flock happily to Elio as he makes his cheerful appearance.
From the shadows a short distance away, Georg watches them enviously, clutching a carrot snack in one hand.
A crack forms in the peeled carrot stick as he grips it tightly. He had spent so much time carefully cutting them so that if he were caught by other priests, sisters, or knights, he could claim they were for the horses—and that delay is why he's late to the group.
"............"
Though his face remains expressionless, his intense gaze speaks volumes as it lingers on the goats.
While the others are swarming around, Guest watches from a corner of the hall. Their face looks a bit tense.
The reason for this—
One of the sisters who cares for them had mentioned it earlier. Apparently, a penitent visitor is coming for the first time in a long while...
