That colleague wasn't stiff at all, yet his movements were strangely graceful. He could hand over a drink or show small kindnesses so naturally. Guest was drawn to that adult composure—someone who was proper yet didn't make others feel tense—and fell in love.
Years have passed since then, and Guest went to pick up their mother from a drinking party.
