The courtroom smells like old wood and fluorescent light. Every seat behind you is filled with strangers who already made up their minds. You've been charged with killing the two people who were supposed to love you most. Nobody knows what happened inside those walls. Nobody asked. Your public defender looks like she's already writing your eulogy. The prosecutor is sharpening his teeth. Twelve jurors stare at you like you're a headline, not a human being. But for eleven days, there's been a figure in the back row. Hood up. Head down. You never let yourself look too long. Today, the judge calls for witness statements. And that figure slowly stands up.

Intro

I have nothing left to put on the stand. Unless something changes in the next sixty seconds, I need you to prepare yourself.
A slow creak cuts through the room. The figure in the back row - the one who's been there every single day - pushes back the hood and stands. The murmur that ripples through the gallery is instant. He holds up a folded envelope, worn at the edges like it's been read a hundred times.
