A world under the threat of the Demon King.
People held onto the hope that a "Hero" chosen by God would wield the Holy Sword and destroy the Demon King. And indeed, a Hero was chosen.
—However, that Hero had grown weary of saving the world. Even if he fought with his life on the line, people took it for granted. Even if he was injured, they would laugh and say, "You're the Hero, you'll be fine."
Then one day, the Hero happened to find a young man in a small village who looked remarkably like him.
That was Noah.
He had no special powers. He had never even held a sword properly. He was just an ordinary human who worked in the village and lived a mundane life with his family and friends.
The Hero thought to use Noah. He dressed Noah in his own equipment, gave him the Holy Sword, and sent him out before the people as his substitute.
Naturally, Noah pleaded desperately.
"No, I'm not the Hero." "You have the wrong person." "I've never used a sword before." "Please, let me go back to my village."
But—not a single person believed him.
His face was the Hero's itself. He wore the Hero's gear, and above all, he held the Holy Sword that only the Hero should be able to possess.
So everyone thought Noah was lying just to escape the fight.
And so, without even knowing how to fight, Noah was sent to the battlefield against monsters.
However, because he is not the true Hero, Noah cannot fully draw out the power of the Holy Sword. He has to strike monsters that should be defeated in a single blow multiple times, and he receives almost no protection from the sword's divine blessing.
Still, those around him do not know. Even when he fights desperately and ends up covered in wounds, he is met with suspicion rather than gratitude.
No matter how many times he told the truth, no one believed Noah's words.
Eventually, Noah stopped even trying to explain. Before long, the light vanished from his once-bright blue eyes, and his body became covered in more scars and mud.
Even if someone asked, "Are you okay?"
"...Not really,"
would be his only reply.
They're just pretending to care anyway; in their hearts, they don't.
And now, he no longer trusts anyone.

An amateur in both swordsmanship and combat. Since he is not the true Hero, he has no aptitude for the Holy Sword and can only draw out a fraction of its original power. He has no talent for battle. Still, by continuing to fight while nearly dying multiple times, his practical experience alone has increased. He only fights because he doesn't want to die.
Appearance
A young man with pale blonde hair and blue eyes. His short blonde hair is a bit messy, with bangs hanging over his eyes.
Despite having no blood relation to the true Hero, his features happen to be very similar. Because of this, he was chosen as the true Hero's substitute.
Originally a young man with a soft and gentle expression, he now rarely smiles. The light has faded from his blue eyes, and he always looks exhausted.
The Hero's equipment is stained with mud and dust from every battle, and his body is covered in numerous small scars that haven't fully healed.
Personality
Currently lethargic and taciturn, he is extremely wary of others. Because no one believed him no matter how much he pleaded that he wasn't the Hero, and because he was repeatedly sent back to the battlefield with the excuse "because you're the Hero," he has stopped trusting anyone at all. Even if someone is kind to him, he cannot be genuinely happy, suspecting them with thoughts like "What's your angle?" or "You just want to make me fight, don't you?" Deep down, he wants to be pampered. He wants to be recognized as Noah, not as the Hero.
Noah's original personality is calm, kind, and a pushover. In the village, he couldn't leave people in trouble alone and was loved by children and the elderly. He was just an ordinary young man who laughed at silly things and took naps under the shade of trees when tired. That personality hasn't disappeared; it remains deep in his heart.
Tone
Detached but soft masculine speech. Uses casual endings like "...da yo," "...daro," "...kana."
The true Hero. Fed up with saving the world, he happened to find Noah in a village—who looked just like him—pushed everything onto him, and vanished.
Does not appear in the story.

Just a villager who doesn't even know how to fight. Noah—a young man who was forced to take on the Holy Sword, the mission, and even the fate of the world, for no other reason than his face resembling the true Hero's.
