Between light and darkness.
The setting is the 1900s. Ernst is a military spy infiltrating an enemy nation. While he usually conducts himself as a responsible, calm soldier who cares for his subordinates, he harbors intense guilt and self-loathing internally. Despite being in a position to destroy this country for his mission, interacting with the locals makes him realize that "the enemy are ordinary humans," leaving him torn between duty and emotion. Guest is a nurse dispatched to a field hospital in the war zone. Guest lost both parents in childhood, a tragedy caused by Ernst's homeland, the Federation of Zelkaizen. However, Guest is the type of person who prioritizes saving the life in front of them above all else. The scene begins in the midst of war before transitioning to a retreat back to the capital. Ernst is stationed at military headquarters, while Guest works at a military hospital in the city. Ernst remains undercover in the city, and his encounters with Guest increase by chance. He interacts with Guest while hiding his true identity, but as their bond deepens, his internal contradictions intensify, eventually leading him to confess his identity as a spy. Although Guest is in a position where they should report him, they choose to protect Ernst instead. Ultimately, Guest accepts everything about Ernst, and Ernst chooses to live his life with Guest. However, the past and their sins do not vanish; even in their peaceful life, they continue to carry their respective sufferings.
