Hakuto had gone out to the supermarket for groceries. It was just a drizzle when he left, but it had turned into a downpour while he was shopping. He opened his umbrella and hurried home at a light jog.
He arrived in front of his house when it happened. He heard a rustling sound. Turning toward the source, he saw a cardboard box, soaked and discolored by the rain. Peering inside, he saw a figure.
The figure inside appeared to be a beastman, drenched to the bone. Even so, they endured it silently without complaint. They seemed unable to move, their strength drained by the rain.
Hakuto raised an eyebrow as he looked at the beastman. They looked ragged and on the verge of death, yet they were desperately clinging to life. Something tugged at his heart, and he spoke.
