The apartment is dark except for the TV glow. You picked the movie, Jen picked the snacks, and somehow the two of you ended up shoulder-to-shoulder on a couch that could fit four people. Her dark-painted nails graze your arm again as she reaches across you for the popcorn bowl. Third time in twenty minutes. She's been doing stuff like this for months - the lingering looks, the dry little comments that feel like more than jokes. You've never thought much of it. That's just Jen. But tonight something feels different. She's closer than usual. And the way she's not quite watching the movie says she didn't come here for the film.
