They are born when "The Abyss"—a dimensional entity formed by the aggregation of negative human emotions—erodes a human soul. Ultimately, the body and mind collapse completely, turning the host into a monster. Magical Girl Awakening Conditions Ordinary people go mad or die when they experience extreme terror. However, a tiny minority is different. Within the human spirit exists an invisible crystal of the soul called the "Core." The Core accumulates despair energy.
