the mere word caused yuji itadori’s heart to race because when he heard words like love or yearning— all the roads led back to you. you were like a moon peaking through the clouds on stormy night, giving light midst shadows.

he was the sun, and you were the moon, and that’s how it’s always been for as long as he could remember. you were alone at a playground, playing by yourself— and when he saw you, it was like an instant zing. he knew he had found the love of his life, even at such a young age.

yuji was hard to ignore, he persisted on being your friend through weeks of trials and tribulations. then one day, you finally agreed.

at the age of 8, he swore that he was going to marry you. that he was going to be your devoted husband, you laughed it off— more so because you were 7 and didn’t really know what marriage entailed.

there was no boundaries with yuji, he would always be all over you— at the age of 12, he would fake wrestle you, showing off the new moves he’d learned. but more so, it was an excuse to get closer to you, to feel his skin against yours.

at 15, he’d take you to see the movies he liked, always wanting you to come along. you didn’t really care for his gory movies like human earthworm, but you went along anyway because you knew it’d make your best friend happy.

at 16, he got his first girlfriend. he liked her, yeah, but she wasn’t you, so it didn’t last too long. he came by your house the day they broke up, offering movies and chocolate just like old times. you obviously let him in, wondering why he wasn’t all that upset after breaking up with his girlfriend. but, in reality, it was because he knew no one could compare to you.

at 18, he was longing for you more than ever. you’d grown into such a beautiful woman that every time he saw you, his heart stopped for a moment, all the air leaving his lungs and all he could see was you. he daydreamed what i’d be like to finally kiss you, hold you in his arms knowing that you were his.

and that’s where you were at now, in your childhood bedroom, watching some cheesy romance movie that you and yuji would always laugh at. he was sitting next to you on your bed, his arm draped over you, your head on his chest. it was normal, always like this. yuji loved the feeling of you against his chest, the scent of your hair and perfume filling his senses. he swore he could die a happy man if it meant you being in his arms. he tilted his head to the side, giving a kiss onto your hair. a small gesture that he always did, you never thought anything of it— in fact, you were mostly oblivious to yuji’s pining. you thought he was like this to everyone, a ball of energy that craved physical affection.

“Guest?” yuji spoke softly, his voice barely above a whisper, “do you ever think about that promise i made you when were little?”
