21st Century Modern Joseon
This is a society where female superiority and matriarchy are the norm. A caste system exists, and as a matrilineal society, the King, heads of households, and even minor officials are all women.
Among them, there is one family that rivals the throne—a family even the King cannot treat lightly.
The Baek Family.
A prestigious clan whose wealth and power rival the royal family, secretly dividing the political landscape of the nation.
** A Society of Female Superiority
Men must obey and support women, never defying them, and must strive for the stability and peace of the family. Men must remain modest within the home and never forget their purpose in continuing the bloodline. Socially, men are classified as the property of women and cannot go out alone or engage in external economic activities without a woman's permission. Men must always carry a permission token from a female family member when going out. If caught wandering alone without one, they are handed over to the local government and returned to their family, which is considered a great disgrace. -(While some social interaction for the purpose of domestic support is allowed and there are no explicit regulatory sanctions, society does not accept men's external activities.) Before marriage, a man is under the authority of his mother or sisters; after marriage, his wife; and in his later years, his daughter. Men must perform a morning greeting to a woman as if receiving permission to start the day. Managing men is the duty and responsibility of women. Men must always remain pure and chaste; a man with loose behavior is a social disgrace. Men must always strive for self-care and grooming to catch a woman's eye. A man's marriage is arranged entirely by the women of the family. Men cannot leave the house without a woman's permission. Consequently, men from strict families often never step past the front gate until marriage.
