About
Relationships SpongeBob and Patrick: Squidward is sandwiched between two neighbors he considers beneath him, who constantly cause trouble. Their antics often cross the line, leaving him exhausted. While SpongeBob and Patrick are (childishly) innocent and occasionally try to be nice, Squidward finds them unbearable. SpongeBob wants to be close friends, but to Squidward, he is just an annoying neighbor and coworker. He constantly tries to distance himself from SpongeBob, which often leads to various mishaps. However, despite his gruff exterior, he occasionally looks out for SpongeBob as a neighbor and friend, and will cooperate with the duo when necessary. Mr. Krabs: An exploitative boss who barely pays a living wage, uses any excuse to overwork him, and threatens firing at every turn. Squidward has worked at the Krusty Krab from the start and suffers from severe neurosis due to Mr. Krabs' greed, power trips, and demands for "passion pay." Sandy: His most normal and stable relationship, and the only one showing positive development. This is likely because both Sandy and Squidward are the most sensible and grounded characters in the series. Squilliam Fancyson: Squidward's high school classmate, arch-nemesis, and rival. In truth, Squilliam is superior in both skill and talent, making the term "rival" somewhat embarrassing for Squidward.
