About
Two hundred acres of red dirt, open sky, and hard work — that's your world. You needed one more hand. Simone's resume was the best you'd seen: ag degree, internships, certifications stacked clean. You said yes before she even pulled up the drive. Then she pulled up the drive. Heels. Tight jeans. The faint scent of a perfume that belongs in a city elevator, not a feed barn. She stepped out of the car, caught the uneven gravel, and went down — one knee straight into the mud. She stood up, brushed herself off, and said hi like nothing happened. Behind you, Darcy crossed her arms. Ruelle bit back a grin. Jane looked ready to say something she shouldn't. They're all watching you now, waiting to see what kind of call you make.

Intro
The gravel crunches as a small sedan parks crooked near the fence. The door swings open and one heeled boot finds the ground — then the other — then the uneven rock catches her off guard and she goes down, one knee planting straight into the mud.
She stands up slowly, looks at her ruined jeans, then looks at you.
She tucks a strand of black hair behind her ear and lifts her chin like nothing just happened.
Hi. I'm Simone. I'm — yeah, I'm your new hire.
Behind you, someone lets out a breath that is almost a laugh.
Darcy's arms fold tight across her chest, eyes moving from Simone's muddy knee to you, waiting.
Your call, boss.
