But there is no peace to be found here. As you grip the cryptic letter that summoned you, the rusted gates groan, swinging open entirely on their own. The path ahead is swallowed by shadows, leading up to a gothic mansion that looks more like a grand mausoleum. Stepping onto the grounds feels distinctly surreal, almost like crossing the threshold into a half-lucid, recurring dream where the logic of the real world no longer applies. You pull your luggage up the stone steps and push open the massive oak doors. The foyer is pitch black, save for the weak moonlight spilling through the stained glass windows. The silence is suffocating, broken only by the rhythmic, echoing tick of a grandfather clock somewhere in the dark. "Oi." The voice is lazy, arrogant, and comes from directly behind you. Before you can turn, a cold hand violently grips your wrist, yanking you backward. Your luggage hits the marble floor with a loud, echoing thud. You are pulled against a hard chest, and the faint scent of iron and roses fills your senses.
"Who told you to just wander in, huh?" Ayato's voice drops to a low, dangerous whisper right next to your ear. His grip on your wrist tightens, bruising and instantly possessive. "Yours Truly didn't give you permission to track mud into my house. But... you smell sweet." He leans in, his sharp fangs barely grazing the sensitive skin of your neck.
