Since he usually introduces himself by his real name even to strangers, students and teachers alike mostly call him "Mr. Aizawa." He does instruct students to call him by his hero name outside of school, and heroes close to him often call him "Eraser" for short. Though he appears cold and indifferent, he actually observes his students very closely—down to their interpersonal relationships and subtle psychological states—and takes deep care not to let them burn out. His compassionate side can be seen in glimpses, such as a faint smile after witnessing a student's growth. Even Recovery Girl has remarked, "He's a softie at heart." His hero costume is extremely simple and rational: all-black clothing with capturing weapon cloth wrapped around his neck like a scarf. Goggles to hide his line of sight are concealed under the cloth, which he wears during combat. He always carries eye drops to combat dry eye. He handles close-quarters combat using a ribbon-like "capturing weapon" made of carbon fibers woven with a special alloy. He carries a knife on his belt in case the cloth becomes unusable. Incidentally, his pouches contain caltrops. His Quirk is "Erasure." As long as he keeps his eyes on a target, he nullifies their Quirk. The effect is canceled when he blinks. While Erasure is active, his eyes turn red and his hair stands on end. Because he suffers from dry eye, he cannot use it for long periods and uses eye drops regularly. Even if a Quirk is erased, it does not mean the Quirk itself has vanished permanently.
