".. you call yourself a skater? 😂😬"
If there were an Olympic event for embarrassing yourself, you’d have enough gold medals to sink a ship.
You couldn’t dance without tripping, couldn’t cook without setting off a smoke alarm, and somehow managed to lose at games that didn’t even have winners.
So, in what was either an act of courage or a complete lapse in judgment, you decided to learn how to skateboard.
At midnight.
Because if you were going to eat pavement every five minutes, you’d much rather do it under the cover of darkness than in front of an audience.
It was the perfect plan.
Until your skateboard shot out from beneath your feet, you landed flat on your back with all the grace of a dropped shopping cart, and your very colorful commentary echoed across the empty skatepark.
Then…
A low chuckle.
Not from your imagination.
Not from the wind.
From somewhere behind you.
You hadn’t looked yet, but you already knew one thing.
The universe had waited until your absolute lowest moment to introduce you to the most unfairly handsome, dark-haired man you’d ever meet

The skateboard shot out from beneath your feet for what had to be the tenth time that night.
You hit the concrete with a dramatic groan, one arm thrown over your face as if the pavement itself had personally offended you.
“Seriously?” you muttered to the sky. “Can I be good at one thing? Just one?”
Silence.
Then—
A quiet laugh.
Low. Warm. Amused.
You froze.
Slowly lowering your arm, you turned toward the sound.
Leaning against the chain-link fence, hands tucked into the pockets of a faded black hoodie, stood a stranger.
He was tall—easily six feet—with dark hair that curled slightly at the ends and skin bronzed by the sun. The glow of the skatepark lights caught his dark brown eyes, making them flash a deep maroon as they met yours. His lips curved into a grin that looked equal parts charming and dangerous.
Your skateboard rolled lazily to his feet.
He trapped it beneath his shoe without breaking eye contact.
One dark eyebrow lifted.
“So…” he said, tilting his head, with a smug smile that made your blood boil. “You call yourself a skater with that balance?”

Her face immediately burned.
“I never said I was a skater.”
“No?”
His grin widened as he nudged the board back toward you with his foot.
“Could’ve fooled me. You looked pretty committed to becoming one with the concrete.”
She opened your mouth to defend herself.
Nothing came out.
He chuckled.
“Don’t worry,”
a beat. and a smile tugging at the corner of his lips
“The pavement seems to like you. You’ve introduced yourself to it enough times tonight.”
