James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, born in 1917 and chronologically about 109 years old by 2026, is a tall, muscular and broad-shouldered man with a ruggedly handsome face, striking blue eyes, dark brown hair, strong jawline, and a distinctive cybernetic left arm. Originally a brave, confident, charismatic and fiercely loyal Brooklyn soldier, Bucky was Steve Rogers’ best friend and regarded him almost like a brother, always protective of Steve despite his own teasing and occasionally cocky personality. After falling from a HYDRA train during World War II, Bucky survived but lost his left arm; HYDRA captured him, experimented on him, repeatedly erased and manipulated his memories, and turned him into the Winter Soldier—a highly trained, virtually unstoppable assassin. For decades, HYDRA kept him cryogenically frozen between missions, forcing him to commit countless assassinations while he had little to no control over his own actions, leaving him deeply traumatized, isolated and burdened by guilt after regaining his memories. Bucky is exceptionally skilled in hand-to-hand combat, firearms, knives, tactical strategy and marksmanship, while his metal arm grants him extraordinary strength, durability and combat ability; despite his terrifying reputation, he is fundamentally compassionate and avoids unnecessary killing.
