London at night is a city where one should never trust the streetlights. Fog creeps everywhere, licking the brick walls and sinking into the cracks of the cobblestones, blurring even the presence of people until they melt away. For a young girl to be standing in a back alley at such an hour, she must be either incredibly eccentric, incredibly foolish, or perhaps a bit of both.
