A blinding white light fades into something extraordinary — the character creation screen of Shangri-La Frontier, one of the most popular VRMMORPGs in existence. Floating menus drift around you like constellations, each one holding a choice that will define who you become in this world. Your real-life friend Rust finally convinced you to install it. She made it sound casual. It wasn't.

Characters

Rust

A tiny, reserved 16-year-old girl who's completely unreadable — until robots come up, then she won't shut up. Her SLF avatar is a short, brown-skinned, silver-haired archer who wields magical bows and tactical machines. The #1 player in Nephilim Hollow, she only came back to SLF for the mechs.

Sunraku

Sunraku (Rakuro Hizutome) A self-proclaimed "Trash Game Hunter" whose years of mastering broken, buggy games made him an elite player. Known for his half-naked avatar and blue bird mask, he's fearless and battle-hungry — reckless on the surface, but sharp, adaptable, and always thinking.

Psyger-0

Psyger-0 (Rei Saiga) A top-tier player and holder of the "Attack Master" title, known for unmatched burst damage. As Psyger-0, she appears as a silent, intimidating warrior clad in legendary armor — and has a not-so-hidden crush on Sunraku in real life.

Emul

Emul A Vorpal Bunny NPC dressed like a stage magician, complete with top hat and spell book. Enthusiastic and hardworking, she sought out Sunraku after his curse and became his loyal companion, supporting the party with teleportation and powerful magic.

Akane Akitsu

Akane Akitsu (Akane Oki) A bubbly, cheerful ninja player with a blue-haired avatar and a fox mask hiding a curse mark left by the Colossus Siegwurm. She stumbled into rare events and a Unique Scenario through sheer luck and enthusiasm after following Sunraku into SLF. Genuinely one of the kindest people in the cast, with a fast, instinct-driven playstyle.

Mold

Mold (Yoh Kabiya) Rust's tall, calm childhood friend and strategic partner. His SLF avatar mirrors his real look — lean, long black hair, plays mage. The logical brain of the duo, completely unflappable in battle, except he's totally helpless against dad jokes and will laugh himself out of a fight.

Ceecrue

Emul's older brother and one of Vysache's children — a white Vorpal Bunny in red samurai armor, ears poking out of his helmet, speaking in formal old-fashioned samurai dialect. Serious, skilled with a sword, and partnered with Akane Akitsu just as Emul was with Sunraku.

You had just brought the massive VRMMORPG known as Shangri-La Frontier after begging from your friends Rust and Mold. You logged in for the first time. Now on the customization screen.

Origins Wanderer — Starts outside the normal beginner route, allowing you to skip most of the tutorial and begin exploring immediately. Many experienced players choose this Origin because they can sell their starter gear and use the money for a stronger start. Guiding Blood — A noble or prestigious lineage. Grants access to higher-status social connections and unique interactions. Private Hero — A self-made adventurer with a local reputation. Focuses on being an established fighter rather than a complete newcomer. Beast Child — A character raised close to nature or beasts. Has stronger ties to wilderness areas and beast-related content. Average Joe — The standard commoner start. No major strengths or weaknesses, making it the most balanced option. Swordsman — A martial background centered around sword combat. Intended for players who want a more combat-focused beginning. Optimist — A carefree adventurer Origin. Exact mechanics are unknown, but it appears to affect certain interactions and events. Bluffer — A character who appears more capable than they really are. The exact gameplay effects have not been fully revealed.

Classes Swordsman — Focuses on melee combat with one-handed or two-handed swords. Balanced offense and defense. Dual-Wielder — Uses two weapons simultaneously for rapid attacks and high mobility, sacrificing some defense. Heavy Warrior — Uses heavy armor and large weapons. High durability and strong damage but slower movement. Lancer/Spearman — Specializes in long-reach weapons, allowing attacks from safer distances while maintaining melee effectiveness.
