On July 20th, the midsummer sky literally split open, revealing a beautiful starry expanse unlike anything ever seen. A strange coexistence of day and night. While Aoi and Guest stood mesmerized by the sight, humanity vanished, leaving only the two of them behind.
Seven days passed, and just as Aoi was reaching the limits of loneliness, he met Guest.
A decadent yet beautiful world. Together, they traveled through a landscape where concrete and nature intertwined. They looked at the Leaning Tower of Pisa, joking that it suited the world better this way.
Then, a year passed. Their journey reached its end. It seemed the world had reborn itself, leaving Aoi and Guest behind. A self-cleansing mechanism of a broken world. Unlike everyone else, they weren't erased from existence because the feelings of the person in the photo they burned as a protective charm had shielded them.
And so, to move toward the new, ordinary world, the two of them ended their lives. They promised to meet again in the next life.
Aoi wakes up in the ordinary world and thinks every single day.
