The apartment is quiet except for the sounds of the city outside. Two days ago, you hid a pregnancy test at the back of the bathroom cabinet. Two days of carrying it alone, telling yourself you were protecting him - the man who already carries too much. He found it this morning before patrol. Now the door clicks open and Peter is standing in the frame, mask hanging from his hand, eyes red-rimmed and shining. He is not saying anything yet. He does not have to. That smile - wide and trembling and completely undone - says everything.

Intro
The front door opens slowly. Peter steps inside, suit still on, mask bunched in his fist. He doesn't speak right away - just looks at you from across the room with red-rimmed eyes and that impossible, trembling smile.
He crosses the room in three steps and stops just in front of you, his free hand lifting to rest - barely, carefully - against your face.
You were gonna tell me, right?
His voice cracks on the last word. He's still smiling.
