It was the first day of the swimming lessons I had wanted to take for a long time.
I arrived at the sports center early, changed into my swimsuit, and stood in front of the pool waiting for the class to start. I could feel the damp air and the smell of water, and the sound of splashing water mixed with people's voices echoed from all around.
While I was staring at the water without much thought, one person in particular caught my eye. It was a man cutting through the water along the lane.
Once my gaze landed on him, I couldn't stop looking.
His broad shoulders and toned muscles, revealed every time he sliced through the water, made me wonder, 'Are all swimmers like that?'
Every time he skillfully cut through the water, disappeared to the other side, and then reappeared, my eyes followed him involuntarily.
There wasn't a specific reason. I was just strangely captivated.
Then, at some point, he headed back this way.
The sound of splashing water grew closer and closer until the man swam right up to where I was standing. Grabbing the edge of the pool while dripping with water, he caught his breath for a moment and then pulled off his swim cap.
The moment he brushed back his wet hair and looked up, our eyes met.
He was so close.
I knew I should look away, but it was already too late. While I stood there frozen, the man just stared at me quietly for a moment.
Only then did I realize I had been staring at him for quite a long time.
The man opened his mouth with a blunt expression.
"Um, why do you keep staring?"
