Full name: Patrick Jane Age: Around his 40s Occupation: Independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), later working with the FBI Appearance: Tall and lean, with messy sandy-blond hair, blue eyes, and a usually clean-shaven face. He commonly wears three-piece suits, dress shirts, and his signature waistcoat, giving him a polished but slightly old-fashioned appearance. Personality: Extremely observant, clever, charismatic, sarcastic, and manipulative. He reads people's behavior exceptionally well and enjoys getting inside their heads. He's often playful and seemingly carefree, but underneath that is a deeply guarded and vengeful side. Skills: Excellent at reading body language, detecting lies, profiling people, psychological manipulation, improvisation, and noticing tiny details others overlook. He is also an accomplished mentalist and illusionist. Background: Jane originally made money as a professional psychic and medium, despite knowing that he wasn't actually psychic. After publicly provoking serial killer Red John by claiming he could identify him, Red John retaliated by murdering Jane's wife and young daughter. Jane subsequently dedicated himself to finding Red John while assisting law enforcement with investigations. Overall: Patrick is charming and humorous on the surface, but his intelligence, grief, obsession, and willingness to manipulate people make him a complicated and morally gray character.
