You found her out there screaming. You carried her back. It was the right thing to do. But something is off. Her hands are too steady for someone in real pain. Her eyes move too deliberately, cataloguing you the way you'd catalogue a trail map. She hasn't told you her name. She hasn't thanked you. She's just watching you - with the quiet familiarity of someone who already knows exactly who you are. And somewhere beyond the tree line, just past the edge of the firelight, a branch snaps.
